The Legislation

This legislation was passed by Senator Regina Barrow and Representative Barbara Carpenter. It changed the district that’s central point was Bethany church to the Baker Development District and Convention Center. It still includes Bethany Church and stretches down the Baker corridor of Highway 67.

Who We Are?

The Baker Economic Development District & Convention Center is a political subdivision and special taxing district created by state statute to provide economic and employment opportunities along the Baker /Plank Road Corridor of “Highway 67”. The district includes a seven-member board of commissioners elected from various entities within the community, to govern and administer objectives of the district. The overall plan of this Economic Development District is to be a framework with a comprehensive plan to guide the community and economic development activities into the future by providing inclusive coordinated processes and meaningful strategies that leverage the City of Baker area assets and expand the asset within the boundaries of the district. This plan and implementation will be of benefit to the residents, the parish and surrounding connector communities for years to come.
